# Mining Cycles & Rewards

### Geolocation Mining

GeoNodes participate in a process known as geolocation mining.

At defined intervals, the node generates a privacy-preserving Proof of Location.

Valid proofs contribute to network activity and may earn NEARBY rewards.

The objective is not to reveal location information but to strengthen the protocol's global geolocation coverage.

### Default Mining Cycle

Every GeoNode begins at the Base Tier.

Base Tier nodes generate a Proof of Location every:

**6 hours**

This tier is available to all users and requires no additional investment.

### Reward Generation

Rewards are based on:

* Valid proof generation
* Consistent participation
* Network contribution
* Geographic coverage
* Future protocol incentives

Specific reward formulas may evolve as the network expands.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.nearby.finance/protocol-layers/proof-of-location-location-layer/node-network/mining-cycles-and-rewards.md?ask=<question>
```

The question should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
